I was delegated for library duty this morning and the kid's club in the afternoon. Most people tendered into Argostoli, Greece today and it is a very short port 8am-2:30pm so all those wanting to go ashore did so during my morning shift. That was very nice. The few that stayed behind chatted with me for a while and we talked about how great this itinerary is and how they are really enjoying their cruise thus far. That was really great to hear.
When I went up to kid's club there were five kids eating lunch by the end of the afternoon 15 kids had come and gone over the course of the 3 hours but they were really fun and played well together. We really do have some nice kids on board overall - at least the ones I've met so far.
You were all interested in what sorts of passengers would be aboard this cruise as AU/NZ was mostly Australians and New Zealanders. Well, we have a fair number from Puerto Rico, Germany, Russia, Romania, England, USA, and Italy this cruise. As well as others from China, Malaysia, and some other countries unknown to me because I can't place the accent and they aren't speaking English, but I assume it to be Eastern European.
I didn't capture any photos from the deck today as the view of this port would have been really long shots and their was a definite haze to the air which makes photos have that overexposed, not sharp, uninteresting look to them. Hopefully a different week I may be able to have time to tender in and photograph this port at least once to say I've been there, but crew only have from about 11am - 1:30pm and have to also allow 20 minutes at least each way plus time standing in the tender line so really about 30-60 minutes or so is all that is left and isn't really worth all the trouble. I do want to do every port at least once though, so stay tuned in future weeks.
I went back to my cabin after grabbing a bite to eat at 4:30 and slept until 8:45PM, I was exhausted. I quickly got up then and dressed and went up to the office to see my supervisor and discuss with her an issue I'm having regarding the smoking policy on board - no smoking except in designated areas with the doors closed - that no one on THIS ship seems to follow. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and the haze is so thick I'm having a very hard time breathing as my throat and chest are tightening horribly every night when I come to my cabin to try and sleep. It is generally taking me about 2-3 hours to fall asleep and I never get to bed before 12:30AM and have to be up around 6:45-7AM most mornings so far - hence the naps each evening so I don't get sick from lack of sleep.
The teens played a crazy scavenger hunt like the Amazing Race and then peaced out to the karaoke and Indonesian Crew Show so we actually left work at 11PM instead of Midnight, nice! :)
Tomorrow is Santorini, Greece and I can get off the ship from 1PM to about 7PM so I'm excited. This city is built on a volcano and the only way up to the city is by cable car or donkey. I may opt for the donkey for a cultural experience only to be had around here in Santorini! :) I'll report back how it went.
Hope your summer is well, blessings!
