Today I tried out the technology of using my Verizon Wireless cell phone while roaming at sea. Of course the charge was a rediculous $2.49 per minute charged to all users regardless of service provider, but it was worth it. Today is my best friend's birthday and I wasn't going to let being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean hinder wishing her a happy birthday.

Strangely enough though I could hear her just fine, but she couldn't often hear me and I had to often repeat myself and say "can you hear me now" How funny due to using Verizon's phone!! After only a couple of minutes, and who knows how many dollars later, I said goodbye and vowed to never use that convenience again (at least not until the technology has been improved). In the future it would be better to simply use the ship's satellite phone service and have clear reception.

We sailed smoothly today, though some passengers felt sick from the motion of the ocean I am a much better sailor now and hardly felt any movement at all. It was an amazing difference to me the size of ship can make in how steady the ship can feel. We had moderate seas and I usually couldn't feel any movement and wouldn't have known we were sailing full speed ahead if I didn't pause to look out the window and see the waves cascading by me.

This itinerary was great weather wise. We were able to bring the kids up to the sports deck and play games outside, definitely not something we could ever do in Alaska, wear sandals and walk on the beach in the sunshine and warmth, not something I even could do in Australia/New Zealand because it was too cold. I have cruised in all season weather in the past six months and have thankfully escaped Milwaukee winter twice. I am very grateful for this fabulous opportunity!
