Day 15 - Rain!

The weather this morning couldn't have been more different to yesterday. Both feeling a little under the weather anyway, we didn't mind spending some time to catch up with photos and writing work.

In the evening we had a nice meal with people from the hostel and played cards until quite late.

Day 16 - Pablo's waterfall tour

Today, Pablo took seven of us up into the mountains in his VW campervan. A rocky river runs through the jungle creating deep pools that you can dive into. Pablo's local knowledge also took us to a spot famously known as a waterfall slide. Over the time the current has smoothened the rocks of this cascade meaning you can get carried down them at speed before crashing into the pool at the bottom. Getting back up is the tricky bit. The local kids seemed to run up the slippery slope with ease whilst we attempted to crawl up on all fours with no luck. Eventually one of them showed us patches that of rock that had been scrubbed to give grip and it all became easier after that.

After a beautiful lunch of seafood paella, Pablo took us to a cachaca distillery where we sampled different varieties of the local drink. The 'paint-stripper' one had us all grimacing but the ones flavoured with chocolate and banana went down a lot easier!

We finished the day with a walk along a beach where Kelly befriended one of Brazils hundreds of stray beach dogs! I'm glad we had our rabies jabs.
