don't be fooled by the title of this entry as i didn't think twice about turning 38 yesterday, but i was very surprised when the ladies in the house had arranged cake and sang for my birthday. that was so sweet and unexpected that i did get a bit teary. despite some of the insanity in the house (see Survivor entry), these ladies really are caring and thoughtful. i'm going to miss the camraderie of Aviva House.

my actual birthday was spent with the penguins and i can't think of many better ways to share my special day. Rocky preened me as i preened him and i got a few "love bites" from the penguins as well. sweet, no? the weather had cooled from 38C to about 28C so that was a huge gift indeed. dinner at Blue Peter with my penguin friends where we had a great view of the sunset preceded a night on Long Street. i'd be lying if i said that i didn't enjoy the dinner more. if the band at The Dubliner had been better, i might have felt differently but i'm a bit over the hustle and bustle of Long Street.

today was my last shift with the penguins and i won't lie, i got super teary when i said goodbye to Rocky and 001. this caused me to nearly burst into tears when i waved to all 13 penguins in Pen 2. they did leave me with a few marks (bites and bruises) today to remember them by and despite their biting ways, i am going to miss them a ton. i'm glad the learning curve at SANCCOB disappeared and i got over that initial hump of concern over my choice of projects in Cape Town.

it's off to Simon's Town tomorrow and i hope that this wind calms down so i can do some kayaking. if not, i'll just have to go and visit the penguins at Boulders. oh darn, that doesn't sound like fun at all :-)

my angel friend...why did I think your b/day was later in March? I hope you had a great time (sounds like you did) and lots of love and blessings for a FAB 'year of being 38'.

I love the sunsets and views from Blue Peter! Glad you got to experience that. I have loved following your journey - sooo look forward to face to face stories when you get back :)
