Our morning began when we got up at 6:00 a.m. to watch the sun rise.

It was very quiet at the beach. The only sound we heard was the of the gentle waves as they rolled onto the sandy beach. Although there were a few other people who got up early, it seemed like we had the beach to ourselves. Watching the sun rise in Angkor Wat was amazing, but I preferred the quiet serenity this morning compared to the thousands of people who descended upon Angkor Wat.

Once the sun was up, we showered and then had breakfast. We were impressed by the food offered. After breakfast we went for a walk to explore a bit of the island. I think it may even be possible to run on the main road and we may try it tomorrow morning, before it gets too hot.

We spent most of the day at the beach, being very careful not to get too much sun. One of the highlights was lunch. A Thai woman prepared a fresh papaya salad, right on the beach. We also had BBQ'd chicken, cooked at her portable stand. Wow!

Our hotel/resort is one of about five on this beach. Some of the others offer a bit of entertainment at night. We saw some boys twirling sticks with fire, heard what we think was karaoke and saw people dancing. Each restaurant has tables and chairs that are set on the beach, and as the tide comes up, the legs of the tables are under water. Many of the hotels have lights and lanterns set up which makes the beach quite festive.
