The following day we headed off to Fox Glacier, via the doctor's surgery for some anti-biotic for Jo's kidney trouble, and walked the short path from the car park up to the face of Fox Glacier - two glaciers in as many days. We both thought that Fox Glacier was definitely the more naturally serene and majestic of the two, but that may well be due to the fact that Fox isn't covered in hordes of brightly coloured trekkers following their guides like ants on a wedding cake (which rather spoils the enjoyment of the cake!) After taking some photos we wandered back to Tilly and continued south toward Haas where we stopped at a viewpoint called Knights Point and took a look through our binoculars at the sea lions basking in the sunshine on the beach about 7 km's away. We followed the curve of the coastline and stopped at a beach known as ships creek, where we took a ten minute walk along the sand to find we'd both been bitten by a multitude of bloody sand flies, these little black sodden flies who take a chunk of skin from you, causing a small spot of blood, which then itches for the next week!! God, there is no way I could live here with these blighters, there's no way you could run around without a t-shirt and just shorts!
We intended to stop at the campsite in Haas, but the woman at the reception of the site was so damned rude, we turned tail, walked out and drove away in a cloud of smoke! Stupid ignorant cow, that's $30 she won't see from us, that's for sure! The campsite was really crappy anyway and looked just like an industrial estate- drive on and give it a wide berth!!
