After leaving Nelson we made our way northward toward the Abel Tasman National Park (named after the Dutch explorer who never actuallywhere we wanted to stay at a little place called Kaiteriteri, a small place next to the sea, enclosed in a beautiful bay with a golden beach and the clear blue sea lapping gently against it. We parked up in the campsite and took ourselves off exploring the coast. The weather was dry but bloody freezing wth a cold southerly wind cutting through our thick winter coats, even though the sun was shining. We climbed around the headland alongside the beach and sat watching the oyster catchers and the waves lapping against the rocks. The day after we took a boat along the coast to take a look at the stunning coastline - see the photos! We were told by the skipper of the boat we were on that there was a doplhin in the area who had taken to swimmiung close to the tourist boat and frollocking alongside the hull. On board was a guy who had written to the local press to tell them about this dolphin and he was hoping to get a good photo that day as the sun was out and there was a good chance in seeing the dolphin. Unfortunately, the skipper had really built up the story of the dolphin (called George, by the way) and we didn't see a sign of the bloody thing! Spookily, that day my nephew was born back in England, although we didn't find out about his birth until a few days later, and we found out his name is George!!
