The work Jo got us to do the day after was good fun - weeding, planting, chopping logs, cutting up fallen pear tree branches, digging out thistles in the paddocks and clearing an area used to grow HUGE pumpkins! We were bloody knackered by the end of the day!! Of course, my day wouldn't be complete without some cock up occuring, and this one was of my own devising. I thought it would be a good idea to let the free range chooks out of their pen first thing in the morning to be told two hours later when our host returned from an errand that they were supposed to have stayed in their run until lunchtime so that they could lay their eggs in the chicken house!! I had to walk around and try to find all of the eggs the chooks had laid all over the remainder of the farm!!

It was enjoyable, good, clean work; a lot better for me than sitting on my derrier at a computer, or even teaching, which doesn't usually involve swinging and axe or spade!! We worked our butts off for the whole day so that we could hacve the day to ourselves on Monday in order to travel back to Aukland and take a closer look at Devonport, a district near the harbour.
