Arriving at the eastern shore of south Thailand, we were sold on a place to stay about 25 minutes from Haad Rin, the site of the Full Moon party. It turned out to be gorgeous - nice little huts built onto a crazy, rocky hillside overlooking the ocean. It was in the middle of nowhere and very quiet with a huge, nearly deserted beach.

The place had a wide open 'restaurant' where great food was always served and a lower covered patio for chilling out. The staff were typically friendly Thais and spent a fair bit of time hanging out with us. We spent a couple of relaxing days there then spent a day in Haad Rin.

Haad Rin is a tourist trap that's built up around the full moon party, but still a pretty good place. The beach is huge and beautiful with 6-foot waves and there's a big, big nightlife. After dinner, all the wide-open bar/restaurants lay mats on the beach around tables and candles so travellers can relax and socialize right on the beach. While I generally avoid anything involving fire and described as "fun", people around us were enjoying firey limbo and spinning flaming poi. Better them than me.

We've hooked up with a couple more of Adam's friends who teach with him in Korea and have been travelling with him, so a few new faces in the photos (which, by the way, are here).

Sadly, world tastes in music lean toward the cheesy and I'm notoriously picky, so that even when we found a place playing music I liked, it was empty. That'll change in the next day or so, as the place fills up for the full moon.

After a day in Haad Rin (and some harrowing 30-minute 'taxi' rides back and forth to our secluded huts), we decided to move there. We've settled in, I'm mostly over jet lag and there won't be much to tell for the next few days as we lounge on the beach day and night.
