We have enjoyed various native foods such as nshina (ground corn meal), boerwas sausage, sauteed kale, & maize to name a few. Various beans are often served as a protein source at lunch in various sauces. Based on the clean plates, everyone is enjoying these new and highly heart healthy dishes!
The students have enjoyed talking with the Macha Hospital nursing students and have learned much from them about the common health problems in Zambia. Students have had interesting clinical opportunities on the male and female wards and outpatient clinics. Today, one student group saw over 50 mothers with their babies for routine growth checks and vaccinations
Tomorrow we hope to meet with a traditional healer in the community to learn about alternative medicine in the bush of Zambia! We have been invited to join our Zambian nursing student colleagues for a chapel service on Friday afternoon. Of course, more clinical tomorrow, Friday and hospital rounds on Saturday morning.
We are so thankful for these unmatched learning opportunities!
