I was privileged  to see my best friend Lisa three times in one month. Two weeks after the Austin trip, Rufio was in Hong Kong the weekend before my birthday. Four of my loving friends were planning to visit Atlanta to celebrate with me, but since there was only one of me, I suggested going to Charlotte instead. A party was held in my honor, complete with a DQ Reese's blizzard cake! We spent Saturday evening watching our beloved Seminoles win with the Charlotte Seminole Club at Ice House. We then ventured to Brazwell's where we continued celebrating our victory.

On Sunday, Dave took us to Lake Norman for a boat day. We started out with a few rounds of wake boarding, until Dave decided to surprise us. "Look what I found"; he had a devilish smirk as from a cargo hold he pulled a knee board, designed circa 1990. Myself and another friend, Brittany, squealed with delight. None of us had seen one of these antiquated water toys since the mid-1990s. We excitedly swapped childhood stories about our knee boarding adventures. Dave plopped in the water and the competition was on. While Dave almost managed a flip, Brittany won for best 360 and I wipe out. Regardless, it soon became a nostalgic day, apropos for celebrating another year of life.

Rufio was back the next day, and four days later we were on the road to the Carolinas yet again. A little history to explain our game plan (pun intended) for the weekend. Rufio is a graduate of Auburn University, myself a graduate of Florida State University. While FSU was playing its biggest game (and what turned out to be biggest disappointment) of the season against Oklahoma, Auburn was playing at Clemson. When the schedules came out earlier in the year we were back and forth about which game we would attend. Mine was the more important game, but Clemson is closer and we have a personal rivalry with Clemson friends in Atlanta, all of whom were attending. Then NFL schedules appeared and the plan was in motion. The same weekend my beloved Green Bay Packers were playing Carolina at home. Carolina's new QB (for those of you who don't follow American football) was Cam Newton, Auburn's Heisman trophy winner and National Championship QB. For our anniversary, I bought tickets to the Packers vs. Carolina game. I was thus sacrificing my big game for an Auburn weekend for Rufio (plus I got to see my Super Bowl Champions, so not a total loss). That being said, we pulled into Clemson Friday night and rendezvoused with our AU friends at Tiger Town Tavern. We partied until the wee hours of the morning, and were up again by 7 am to  start tailgating. We grabbed a drink at Esso Club before heading in to "Death Valley". Unfortunately Auburn lost, but we had a great time patronizing the Clemson fans and their tiny, quiet stadium.

We left the game and set off on I-85 N (joke from the weekend) towards Charlotte. We had just enough time to change out of our Auburn gear and into Florida State colors before kickoff. We met up with Lisa and co. again at Ice House, where we suffered through our second defeat of the day. Absolutely exhausted, Rufio and I opted out of partying and instead headed to my other best friend's (Emily) house to sleep for a few hours before Packers tailgating began.

Sunday morning we met with Adam&Ally and Seamus&Erin. Adam is an AU graduate, Seamus&Erin are Clemson graduates and all went to the game the day prior as well. We found a nice spot close to the stadium to tailgate, then went on to watch the Packers defeat the Carolina Panthers. Finally a win!

We were back on the road to Atlanta, exhausted yet enlivened by such a great weekend. We had the rare chance to spend time with both our sets of college friends, as well as attend a game that mattered to each of us. In retrospect, it really was a perfect anniversary celebration.
