Where I stayed
Shanghai University of Finance and Economics
I have met so many awesome people here! It's been great getting to know people. The Alliance group is on two floors in the dorm building, the 8th and 9th.. the 8th floor is comparatively quieter and smaller than the 9th floor and that's the floor I am on, but I absolutely love it! The people on my floor are super chill and their roommates are so awesome too! My Chinese roommate is the best of them all, we get along very well even though she just moved in yesterday! She is super cutesy and we're very much alike in personality!
When we met our roommates yesterday, we had a dumpling making competition! It was cool to go to the actual market and get produce, prepare the ingredients, and make the actual dumplings! Our group made the most dumplings but one of the roommates forgot the seasoning so the meat was very bland.. but we ate them anyway! It was comforting to know that come judging time, other groups also forgot salt!
Tomorrow, we start class! I got placed in Chinese 201, even though I really thought I bombed the placement test I took a couple days ago.. the rest of the Chinese-American people on my floor got into 200 and I was shocked because I know for sure their Chinese is better! We had Chinese orientation today and met with our teacher.. I think it will be a very intense class but if I stay focused, I should be taking a lot from it.
More and more I have been able to communicate my intentions to locals to the point where I can understand them and they can understand me; it makes me so happy! I really believe that I will have greatly improved my Chinese communication skills by the time the semester is over.
Until next time, love and miss everyone at home! :)
