Where I stayed
The Bravo Hotel was in the middle of town and nice enough, if a little bit expensive at $25. We set off in the direction indicated by the receptionist to find the train station and after walking for a good 30 minutes realized we were probably not getting anywhere near it. We asked a horse and carriage driver where the station was but with no burmese or english on his part it took a good 5 minutes of charades before he seemed to get it and quoted us a price to take us there. (1500 Kyats). It was hot and dusty and we had wanted a ride in one of these contraptions so we didn't bother to argue or barter
As it was we would never have found the station on our own without a map. When we got there there wasn't much going on. We managed to work out that we would have to come back at 7am in the morning to buy tickets and that there was a special office for foreigners.
By this time I was feeling shocking and headed quickly back to the room. Thank god we had a movie channel because I spent the rest of the day oscillating between the loo and laying on the bed in a foetal position. Tim wandered around a bit and manage d to get some nice pics of the surrounds but I can't really say we expored the sights of the area!
