Again, I disliked Athens. Moreso this time, as EVERYONE I met in Athens was consistently rude. I thought the checkout girl was going to attack me. She kept slamming things down and looking like she wanted to kill people, obviously hating her job. If you hate your job that much, then leave, don't take it out on innocent customers. I incensed her even further as I didn't know that you have to weigh the vegetables yourself and print out a sticker to put on them, before taking them to the checkout counter. Everywhere else in Europe, the checkout chick weighs the vegetables - and the instructions to do this (if they existed) were definitely not in English. I looked at her obnoxious, patronising expression in disbelief. I've never been served by someone so hostile. If you were that rude in Australia, it is likely that you would be fired. I hope she got fired. She was not a one off - every shop assistant was unhelpful, rude and looked as if they had much better things to be doing than assisting people in their shop. It was so bad that I ended up avoiding speaking to anyone, and stayed in my hostel until it was time to leave. Finally, out of here. I will not be coming back in a hurry.
