I am extremely angry, because I spent all day yesterday scrubbing my apartment and making it as clean and neat as I possibly could, and the management actually yelled at me, accused me of lying, and charged me 45 euros, which is around $70-80, for extra cleaning charges! I had left the place exactly as I'd found it, as requested. Everything was spotless, folded and shiny clean. Nothing was in any way dirty or out of place. I spent 12 euros (around $20) on their expensive washing machines to wash the pillow and the quilt and the mattress protector, as requested, and they accused me of lying and said that I hadn't washed them, because they found one hair on one of the items. They (violently) pulled them off the beds and took them away to be washed again! She said I hadn't cleaned the floor because she found one speck of dust. They showed me a nonexistent pile of "rubbish" outside my door, and yelled at me saying I can't just leave my rubbish out for the cleaner like that. There was no rubbish, there was a miniscule pile of dust, which I had not put there, and was clearly from people's feet as everyone has to walk past my door to get to their rooms, as it is beside the lift. They had obviously swept up the whole floor outside, and then put it conveniently in a pile outside my room. They did not believe me when I said I had not left that there for the cleaner. I seriously think their standards of cleanliness are unreasonable and deliberately so in order to scam foreign students who do not have the linguistic skills to object. I am quite certain that it didn't matter how much effort I put into cleaning that room, I still would have been charged. I was charged the full amount -I shouldn't have bothered to clean it at all. I was very upset that they accused me of being a liar, and dirty, and I will not be returning to Nice. I will also be complaining to the school. I heard other negative stories from friends staying at another of the school's lodgings - stories about them being packed into a room with three other people when they'd paid a lot more money for a single room, then if they complained or asked for the extra money they'd paid to be refunded, she packed up all their stuff and put it on the street when they were out. It just isn't fair. I am just so angry, because I could have got a private room in a hostel with included breakfast for the same price, and they would have cleaned my room for me. I hate to be so negative, but Nice and the people in it really didn't do much for me.
