Goodbye Nice

Nice was a very slow-paced, relaxing experience. I had a chance to unwind, rediscover my passion for reading and catch up on some sleep. I didn't get much out of the French classes - partly due to the large class size, partly because the teacher seemed more interested in flirting with the sexy Italian boys in the class, and partly due to my own lack of motivation. French people in restaurants and ticket booths don't generally want to speak to me in French, and I didn't manage to meet any French people in Nice on a social level. In Paris, my French improved quickly because I socialised with French people, and my teacher was fantastic. I sent him an email to thank him, and assured him that I'd certainly be coming back one day. I was always meeting new people in that fabulous city.
In Nice it has been harder for me to make friends. A lot of the students are just kids, or only speak Spanish or Italian. The school has no common area in which to meet people - same as the apartments. I met some nice Russians but they've gone home now. There is also the Romanian girl mentioned in a previous post whom I am avoiding. She knocks at least 4 separate times a day, but I don't answer my door. I struggle internally with this decision. I feel bad for shutting her out, but I don't like the way she harasses and manipulates me to get her own way, and I feel that if I am on holidays, I would prefer to spend time with people who are easy going, or to spend time alone.
Nice has a very pretty coastline and great food (though expensive), but I grew a little bored of it. If I had the benefit of hindsight while planning this trip I would devote 1 week to Nice instead of 4, and use the other 3 weeks for a longer stay in Paris, or to explore Croatia and Morocco, two places I'd love to go to, but missed out this trip. I am off to Italy now, and I am brimming with excitement. I haven't eaten Italian food for 9 days - I banned myself from it so I could fully appreciate it when I got there. Last time I went to Italy I was completely over Italian food and just went to Asian restaurants! I read a wonderful article on Italian gelato and am intrigued. I plan to try a new flavour each day for the 2 weeks I'm there, and also my favourite flavours, ferrero rocher and pistachio

Well, as usual i am completely jealous of you! I want to be oversea's, rather than stuck in NSW with the same job, the same life, and the same day-to-day activities.
Have a great time, and have some extra gelato for me!
