As I walked down Rue de Belleville today in one of my shorter dresses, I discovered that French people actually say ooh l à là! I thought it was just one of those things they put in stereotyped French cartoons that French people never actually say, like "Sacre Bleu". People in Paris tend to dress very casually in Paris - I think I will follow suit to avoid more sleazy Frenchmen. I am delighted that French people actually do carry baguettes around under their arms and say ooh l à là! , but there are no berets in sight.
I went to a wine and cheese tasting experience today at Ô Château. It was so much fun - great company, great cheese, and amazing wine. I thought the reds were on par with Australian wine, but the white and the champagne that I tried were the best I've ever tasted. We sat for hours, drinking, talking and learning about French wine, and eating delicious cheese, meat and bread. I would definitely recommend something like this if you are in France. I ended up buying the champagne and the white that we tried, as they were much cheaper than I expected
The guy showed us a map of France and the different wine regions. He cracked an anti American joke, explaining to the Americans in the room that it was a map of France, in case they didn't know. They didn't seem very impressed! I learnt that the French classify their wines by the region rather than the grape like they do in Australia. The Champagne I bought is from Champagne, and the white is from Burgundy, or Bourgogne in French. I am even more disappointed that my Burgundy wine tasting tour was cancelled now! I will have to try to get down there during my time in Paris.
At the end of the tasting session, the French guy who did the session and taught us about wine asked me to stay back. I thought it would be about my payment or something like that, but he actually wanted to ask me to come to his party! It should be fun, I hope the guests can speak English though or I don't think I will be able to make very riveting conversation. Hopefully I won't be out too late, as I have Champagne tasting to do at Moët and Chandon Cellars in Epernay tomorrow (Champagne region), and have to be in Central Paris to meet the bus at 6:45am. Mish!

. The champagne was a Henin Delouvin and the white was a Domaine Venot. I think I am going to save them for when I get back to Sydney - and just leave them with my cousin in England so I don't have to carry them around.
