I admit that I've got a bit behind on my blog obligations and I'm actually writing this entry for Probbolingo more than a week after we were there.  It wasn't very interesting or memorable even at the time, so writing about it after such a delay is a little difficult, but my husband is fanatical about us at least recording on the blog each place we spent a night, so for his sake I'll just briefly tell you about it.    We arrived by train from Surabaya, a fairly easy journey in Executive Class where we read our books and looked out of the window, and then took a becak to our chosen hotel which was fine, although certainly on the basic side and not particularly geared up to Western tourists (most of them being more sensible than to travel Java and heading straight to Bali!).  We'd indulged in the breakfast at the Mandarin Oriental that morning so efficiently that even by 7.30ish that evening, we still weren't particularly hungry but had a hankering for a little something so we headed out to find the one reasonable-sounding restaurant in town.  We ordered asparagus and crab soup and stir-fried vegetables, both of which tasted fine, but the texture of the soup, this being a Chinese-oriented restaurant, was so gloopy it was like pure egg white.  Still, it filled a (small) hole.  Then it was back to the hotel for a bit more reading and bed to dream about the volcano we were going to see the next day.  (R)
