Last night, I took John Treadway's bike and cycled down, through the (mercifully flat) Tiergarten to the Brandenburg Gate (or Brandenburger Tor for the purists among us). It is most impressive at night and the crowds of people surrounding it confirm this as the center of activity for Berliners and visitors alike.

There is a Berlin 180 exhibit right in front of the eastern approach which allows a person to see the gate and the surrounding area as it was in the days following Germany's defeat in 1945.

There had been a street festival in the Tiergarten (the large green space within Berlin, kind of a Central Park) during the day and as I wandered back during the warm evening, the few lingering partiers were listening to the heavily accented strains of Go Johnny, Go Johnny Go.

More tomorrow.......
