We managed to get a room at Chillies. This consisted of a log cabin that shared a bathroom and kitchen with one other room. We shared with Andy (international man of mystery) and Martin (ze German) and our neighbours were John (medical student with a passion for dissecting animals) and Simon (the Kiwi pieman who never moved from his hammock). We were later joined by Monique and Brenda who are currently setting up their own volunteer organisation in Central and South America. We spent a lot of time on "The Porch" and the guys cooked up some great food every night that was washed down with a drop of rum
Whilst in Roatan John completed his PADI open-water scuba diving course. He did 4 dives, the deepest was to 18 metres. The coral here is fantastic (second in size only to the Great Barrier Reef) and he saw stingrays, squid, massive grupa fish and lobsters. Someone on another dive even saw a Bull shark but John was glad he didn't! Kerry took the less challenging option of sunbathing and swimming with Dolphins! Kerry´s dolphin was a 3-year old female called Fiona. She was very friendly and did lots of impressive tricks and even gave Kerry a kiss! After swimming with them Kerry took John to watch the Dolphin show. However, all the dolphins here are wild and free to leave at anytime and because it is mating season at the moment half way through the show the male dolphin decided there were better things to do and swam off!!!
On our last 2 days we hired a scooter (message to our mums - Kerry made sure we only went slowly, in fact she didn't let John go above 20mph) and travelled around the island. We visited an iguana farm (John had to more or less carry Kerry through it as they were running free around the grounds) and went to West Bay which is the most beautiful beach we have ever been to and is simply paradise.
On our last night we had a few drinks at our local bar. We watched the sun go down over the bay and as we sat by the fire drinking a cold beer we wondered if we had done the right thing coming travelling.....
