The journey to Rio Dulce from Antigua was long and hot. We got there at about 4 in the afternoon feeling hot and sweaty from the coach journey. John had done some reading on the way and took charge of finding us a hotel. We dropped our bags off and headed for some food and drink at one of the restaurants on the riverbank. We wandered along the main street but there was very little to do here. We decided just to chill by the river for a couple of hours. We went back to the hotel early as we decided what we really needed after our early morning start was a good nights sleep before we would get a boat up the river the next day. All was going according to plan until John´s choice of hotel was called into question; first the toilet packed up, the shower flooded because the toilet was blocked and then just as we had got off to sleep we discovered the hotel was situated next to the towns only disco that insisted on playing music so loud it shook our room - until 3am!! Kerry was obviously chuffed to bits with John´s choice of hotel and decided he should never take charge of booking our rooms from now on!!! Kerry decided that she needed to take control again and got us both up at 7am to catch a boat up the Rio Dulce river. Unfortunately the first boat doesn't leave until 9am though so between us things didn't run too smoothly here!
