After a quiet flight from Cairo to Malta (apparently there are not many Egyptions looking to travel to Malta!) we began our European travels!
It was crazy for us at first to be back in a Western country again. No strange looks, no one trying to 'help' us find a hotel, restaurant, taxi, and it was amazing how clean the entire country was. Plus, (after always asking first) most people spoke a little english. We found a great guest house right in the heart of downtown Valetta. Valetta is a walled city filled with beautiful architecture, ocean views, and friendly people. Since Malta was just a quick stop-over for us on the way to Switzerland, we only had a few days to explore
We arrived into Zurich... wow.. what a change for us! HELLO SWISS FRANK - things are much, much more expensive here than anywhere else that we have been. So it's back to P B & J for us! Zurich was great, Rich hooked us up with a good friend of his who took it upon himself to take us out on the town & show us what real fondue is all about. After a quick day of wandering around Zurich, we were off to Bern to meet up with another contact to pick up our ski gear before heading to the ALPS!
With our packs filled to the rim and ski helmets clipped to the sides, we headed via train to Engelberg, home of Mt. Titlis (yes, it's pronounced as spelt... the crazy Swiss!). This is were we would be meeting a few friends that made the journey out from Colorado to do some snowbaording. We all rented a sweet condo overlooking the town and mountains, and rode as much as we could in-between snow storms. Wow... POWDER! Renee and Amanda left for Prague, and we liked Engelberg so much we decided to rent a flat here for a month and ski and snowboard until spring comes! So here we are, in the most amazing valley, surrounded by jagged alps.... for a month.... oh HEAVEN! Check out the pictures to confirm!
