Where I stayed
The second is an annoying 1913 American tourist asked the tour guide why the trumpet man only plays half the song every hour. To shut the American up, the tour guide lied and said a Mongolian archer shot an arrow in the trumpeteer's throat and so now the current trumpeters honor that memory. The American went back home and wrote a book about it so now the lie is famous
Pope John Paul II is so famous here. I saw the church where he went and I took a pic of the seat he liked. After he died, the rival soccer team fans who sometimes killed each other called a truce that lasted 3 months.
The second tour was Jewish. So sad. Nazis were the most evil people in history that I can think of. They showed us the ghetto where the Nazis forced the Jews to live. A Jewish architect was forced by the nazis to build a wall around this ghetto so he did reluctantly but he tried to warn the Jews by designing the wall like Jewish tombstones. We saw where scenes from the movie Schlinder's list were filmed. They divived the Jews into Groups, A and B. Group A were strong men and women who were sent to work camps on one day and told the next day Group B would come to join them. Instead, on the next day, Group B (were weak and old and kids) who were sent to Aushchuwitz to die, not to the work camps. There was sympolic chairs in the square that represents all the furniture and fortunes the Jews left behind before they were sent to die.
I saw Schlinder's factory. Some think he was a hero, other's an oppurtunist becuase the Jews were free labor. Regardless of his intentions, he did save lives.
We learned so many interesting stories.
I love coming to the hostel at night and drinking beers and watching Euro Cup 2012 soccer matches. I'm routing for England, Germany, and Ireland.
