My first day in the pest I spent doing a walking tour. The lady was really nice and she explained the histroy of the city well. It was two cities, Buda and Pest, but they joined forces to form Budapest around 1857. They fought on the Axis side in WW2 and they were communist until 1989. They having difficulty switching to capitalism and democracy but I think they like it better. There is this Awesome Ronald Regan statue that was unveiled a few years ago. Movies are cheap to film here so my tour guide has seen Bruce Willis filming Die Hard 5 here and Brad Pitt filming World War Z. There borders have changed a few times over the past 100 years or so. Some old people who lived near the border changed nationalities 3 times in their lifetimes. It seems like Hungary gets the short end of the stick for the most part. There was a mini revolution here in 1956 and riots here in 2006. There is a caving under Budapest advertisement poster in my hostel but I am not going because I hate caves.
My roomate is this sweet old Mexican man who told me some Mexican history including Hitler tried to recruit Mexico for World War 2 but Mexico fought on the good side instead. I hope to sleep awesome tonight. I practiced my spanish with him.
