We are staying at the Wombat Hostel. Its very nice. We walked into our room and met our new roommate's. 3 guys from New Zealand and one from Australia. Very cool guys... Everyone was so tired from traveling that we all stayed in for the night. We hung at the bar in the hostel and relaxed. These kiwi guys are hilarious! The bar in the hostel had a nice outdoor terrace... not bad for a hostel.
Monday Sept. 12th
First day to visit the lovely city of Vienna. One of the New Zealand guys toured Vienna with us. Thank goodness! He was our navigator... thanks Ian! We are off to see some grand palaces! Our first Schonbrum is a 17th century Baroque style palace
So much traveling makes for exhausted travelers. We took another nap. All our new flat mates were napping too! Alett and I are having fun hanging with the New Zealanders and our one fellow Australian... love the accents!
Tonight we went to eat delicious German food. Goulash and potatoes! We had a rather attractive waiter with a charming personality. He made the dinner even better. The Austrian people we have met have been very kind and pleasant. After dinner we went to listen to live Jazz. One of the locals told us of a hip jazz bar "Tunnel." We enjoyed the Monday night jazz session. There were many performers. My favorite was of a girl scatting. She was very talented. Enjoyed a great evening with wonderful company!
Tuesday Sept. 12th
This is our last chance to see Vienna. Alett and I leave this afternoon for Prague. Back to Praha again. Alett has never been. Since this is one of the first places I visited it will be nice to do a little re-cap of my trip. Alett, Ian and I checked out of the hostel early and took the subway to the Old Town. (The Old Town is encircled by the Danube). From Karntner Street you can see St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdome). So many incredible cathedrals. I am starting to lose track. Stephansdome is a gothic style masterpiece built in the 13th century. The geometric roofing of the cathedral is very appealing.
MORE PALACES! There must have been a great deal of royal blood in this city! The Imperial Palace Hofburg was the cities center base. We never made it to Mozart's home. He only lived in Vienna a few yrs. His true home is in Salzburg.
Vienna is the place to be if you enjoy the Opera or Classical Concerts. You can get up early on Sunday morning and head to Hofburgcapelle and enjoy the Vienna Boys Choir.
Vienna has charachter! Its an inspiring city full of life. I felt like I did not spend enough time here. This place is captivating. I must return soon!
