Yesterday, we took the ferry to Manly Beach. Another popular beach in Sydney. It took about 30 minutes to get there. Once we arrived, we thought to ourselves that the beach looked kind of small but got changed into our swimsuits anyway. We had fun in the water. We saw a few fish (only small ones) and even an octopus! The waves were small so we could swim and not worry about getting knocked around. We brought some books to read and plenty of sun screen. Later that night, we were looking through a brochure and there was a map of the beach. Can you believe we went to Manly Cove instead of the big beach. No wonder there wasn't many people. We will try to get back there before we leave on Thursday.
Afterwards, we went back to the hostel and prepared supper. It was really quiet because everyone was out celebrating Mardi Gras. By the time we got to the parade, there were so many people we had to watch it on the big jumbo television. We did see a few colorful characters. One guy was telling us that he waited from 3:00 pm until the parade started in order to get a good spot.
We changed hostels today. Before we left on our trip, we bought a membership with Hostelling International. Were now staying at Sydney Central YHA. It's close to major Sydney attractions and the facilities include a sauna, rooftop pool, BBQ, self-catering kitchens, games room, home theatre and laundry. It's about $20 dollars more then what we were paying but well worth it. Were really enjoying it. We can even iron our clothes or watch a movie and get free popcorn. Manly Beach/Cove?
Hello Fellow Ottawans!
I had to laugh when I read your Manley Beach/Cove story! The exact same thing happened to me the previous December! Only after spending the better part of an afternoon there, and beginning to believe Manley was the most overrated beach in the world did I get up and walk around.....only to discover people walking back from the other side with surfboards and wet bathing suits on.....
Did I ever feel foolish, but it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who live in Ottawa who made the same mistake!
