Hm, where to start....? On 29th of Januray I arrived Lithuania, it was very cold. I went to my dormitory (I hated it from the first moment on...). The first days were not easy, I did not know anyone, it was very cold in my disgusting room because wind came through the windows and so on. Some days later my room-mate Matus from Slowakia arrived and I can say for 100 % that we had a great time together. By the way: thank you Matus - for everything!!! After some days I met really nice people like Vagelis from Greece (YES, we will go to Skopje together...), Florian from Germany, Veronika and Jan from Czech Republik, Jella from the Netherlands, Jana and Lulu from Slowakia (and as already told Matus), Laura and Natalia from Latvia and many other nice people from 9 countries.
February and March were not easy because I was ill nearly the whole time (lung infection, not funny, I lost 6 kg) and weather was horrible. University (MRU) was fine, most teachers really were nice and the university is quite modern and well equipped. After having written the hardest test end of March I went home for a few days and when I came back things changed, I really felt good in Lithuania. Weather was fine, some friends and relatives visited me (thank you all!!!!) and I made some nice trips.
Recapitulating I can say that I am satisfied with my stay in Lithuania even though it was not easy at the beginning.
What I disliked there:
The dormitory (really disgusting, showers and the kitchen were so dirty and broken showers were not repaired).
Many (not all!!!) Lithuanians were quite impolite and rude to foreigners.
Only small parts of Vilnius are really beautiful, I prefer Riga and Tallinn...!
What I liked/loved:
My class mates (not only class mates, now I can say friends)
Akropolis, a mega shopping mall and the cinema there
My sports club (by the way, thank you Florian, Jella and Jan for the accompaniment)
The supermarkets (Rimi and Maxima and Iki) with great business hours and an amazing assortment and also amazing prices.
Egyz (mobile phone company): Nowhere in the world it is so cheap and uncomplicated to buy a sim-card; writing sms and calling is so cheap, I will miss that in Germany
Going out for Bowling
Double Cafe
The old town
Kaunas
The north of Lithuania (coming from Daugavpils, Latvia and crossing the border the road leads you through an amazing landscape with many lakes
Trakai
Restaurants (which I mostly visited with Vagelis) like Medininkai (the best of all...) and Forto Dvaras and Lokys.....
And last but not least - the best place in whole Lithuania - the Curonian Spit where Florian, Helene, Veronika and I visited for one weekend, one of my best short-trips....!
