Well I've just been checking out a couple of other blogs on Berlin just to see if my alcohol blurred view over the weekend is consistent with any other travellers reviews... they didn't mention the wrestling with Sanj in the Sony Centre or the bruises I now have around my wrist or even the antics of a very annoying blow up elephant (check back to friday for more details!) but I guess everyone has a different perspective on things!
So yeah... having prised myself out of bed and having not been fed I just about managed the first hour and a half of the 3 hundred hour walking tour of the city! And the photos are definitely a little sparse....
So here's the history bit:
There are 2 main threads of history - Hitler/World War 2 and the Cold War/Berlin Wall.
The history and stories about the Berlin Wall are quite heartbreaking. I'm just getting to grips with being separated from my friends and family for 3 months!
As you probably know, the wall went up overnight and people who were stuck on the wrong side that night could never go home or see their family again for 28 years (did they not think about this and the fact that in 28 years they must have had access to some means of transport to get them across - or am I just not getting it!?).
Parts of the wall have been kept as it was before the fall and these pop up all over the place rather randomly.
After this I ventured off in search for a Starbucks ... but did manage to find a shopping centre with nothing to buy!?
But of course, being in such a big city for the whole weekend.... and the chance to practice my German drinking skills there was a lot more drinking to be had by all.
I'm sure someone will update me on Saturday nights events.... ?
