A group of us from the school ventured out this afternoon about 50k north of Cartagena to wallow around like hippos in mud!
Itīs the bizarrest of things... a volcano about 250m deep full of sulphuric mud that you can bathe in! Because the mud is so deep you donīt sink and itīs even difficult to get yourself upright or move around without losing balance.
Apparently itīs good for your skin too but Iīm not sure bathing in it after everyone else has been in there improves the mud quality or not? You can get a massage too..... but itīs all a bit odd really.... just picture a load of gringos bobbing about in a pool of mud at the top of a volcano and the locals trying to rub you up lol!
Afterwards you get the pleasure of trapsing down to a stinking lagoon and get some woman to wash it all off... she takes off your swimming stuff as well and washes that whilst you sit there wandering if the murky water is enough to cover all your bits from view.... :S!
This experience certainly deserved an entry all for itself and I have about 50 photos of my time there.... which I didnīt actually take myself as when you arrive someone takes your camera and basically spends the whole time photographing you.... itīs like being at a wedding having your photo taken from every angle... except for the mud obviously!
You have to go there.... itīs just so odd! lol

El Volcán es extraņo!!
Wow, that looks bizarre. Just watched a couple of YouTube videos of people galumphing around in Totumo. That must feel very strange knowing that what you're standing on isn't ACTUALLY solid, yet you won't sink because there's so much of it... I'm not sure I'd have liked it, though it's one of those things I guess that you soon acclimatise too. Did you skin feel better afterwards? lol
