So, Phil, the Scottish guy from the poker room, and I left Adelaide Thursday afternoon.  He had one of the Wicked campervans, which are infamous backpacker rides with graffitti all over them.  All Phil knew was that he had to turn in his van in Melbourne Saturday morning, and all I knew is that we should probably see these things called the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road.  Luckily, the roads are pretty straight forward here, so we set out in a general south-easternly direction.  And, I, as the de facto navigator, set about finding what things were, where they were, and how to get there.

The ride was real easy going as Phil and I had a lot in common.  Aside from the obvious interest in poker, it turned out he was also a recent graduate with a computer science degree.  He had a bit more of an interesting story than me though after hitting the huge Caribbean Stud Poker jackpot at his hometown casino.  That's why he was out here traveling (in style) - how cool is that?

We crashed in the Grampians the first night.  They turned out to be a huge mountain range.  Fairly impressive actually.  The next morning, we were off and away down the Great Ocean Road, which is a scenic drive along the coast.  Made a few stops to see some dramatic sights where the ocean had eaten away at the coast for a couple million years or so.  We stopped at Apollo Bay for a swim in the ocean.  The water was freezing, so that swim turned into a one second dip of extreme will power.

After Apollo Bay, I finally stopped my months-long fall down the globe and started heading north again.  We stopped for dinner in a fashionable town called Lorne.  Phil's propane tank ended up breaking while I was cooking some noodles, so we had to sit in the van until the tank was done spewing gas into the air.  We could have stopped for the night there, but we thought, nah, on to the casino in Melbourne.  A few hours more, and we were there.
