Adelaide is a nice, little city. That first day, I went around, checking out some of the sites. Went on a tour of the art gallery, saw the botanic garden, visited the market, and gathered information. I also made the rounds at the backpacker hostel notice boards, looking for work or a ride to Melbourne - found out that most people wanted to go via something called the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road, so now I do too. Aside from a day trip to the famous Barossa Wine Valley, I spent the rest of my days mainly on the internet and at the casino. Haha, I'm having trouble getting into the Australian backpacking scene - it's just a bunch of 18 year-old German people that work to earn money only to drink it all away every night. That could be fun I guess, but you can do that anywhere if you want - I'm trying to find ways to add a little more to my time here. We'll see how that works out. Until then, I'll put in my hours at the only legal work available to me - at the poker tables.
The first two nights went well - I was up big. I should have stopped there, I remember thinking about stopping, but I didn't. I managed to give it all back and then some over the next few nights, only to win a little more to get back to even for my time in Adelaide. One great thing came out of all of it though; I was talking with this guy from Scottland at my table one night. Turns out he had just come from Uluru and was headed to Melbourne in the next couple days and he had room in his car for one more. We actually managed to make it all work out, and that's how I found my ride out of Adelaide.
Notes: for a couple days, I was contemplating doing a relocation to Melbourne. That's where a rental company needs a vehicle moved from one city to another. Considering I haven't driven in months and they drive on the left here, it's probably for the best that didn't work out.
