This morning we took a tour of Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 and the Garden District. The cemetery was founded in 1833. Many of the tombs are along a wall lining Washington St. many are unmarked containing the hundreds of yellow fever victims. The above ground tombs often contain many people. When a body is interned here the heat inside speeds the decomposition process. The remains are then pushed to the back and new remains can be entombed. The cemetery has been used in many movies but filming is no longer allowed.

After walking through the cemetery our guide explained the types of architecture seen in the Garden District. Many of the homes are huge mansions other are just very large family homes. We walked past the home of Archie Manning, Peyton's boyhood home. We also saw the house that Walt Disney used as inspiration for his Haunted Mansion at Disney World. We walked past the homes of Anne Rice, Sandra Bullock, and John Goodman. Our guide was awesome. I highly recommend using Walking Tours by Foot. There is no fee for the tour. You may tip the guide whatever you can afford or nothing at all.

When we got back to the hotel the girls and I walked to an antique store we saw on Decatur Street. The furniture in the store was overpriced but the junk outside was awesome! So many cool, unique metal objects, signs, doors, mantles, etc.

We had dinner at Turtle Bay Bar. They advertised a 20 oz. ribeye dinner for $15.75. We figured, what the heck. It was so good! Excellent steak cooked just right, and a bargain!! After dinner we walked around the French Quarter and had beignets.

Tomorrow is our final day of vacation. We plan to go to the WW II museum and take a ghost tour in the evening.
