Today we decided to do some exploring. After breakfast we walked down to Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral. It opened in 1727 and is the longest continually operated cathedral in The United States. It's an unbelievably beautiful structure. Pictures can't really capture the beauty of the art and stained glass. We also walked through the French Market and stopped at Cafe du Monde for beignets.

After hanging by the pool for a while the girls and I went over to the market to get a bite to eat a do a little shopping. I found a booth of art by Jim Tweedy. He draws humorous cartoons of cats and dogs. I bought a cute print entitled "Self Portrait" and he signed and dated it for me. (His works can be found at

The valet at the hotel suggested we do as the locals do and go to Frenchman Street for dinner and jazz. We ate at a restaurant and jazz club called Three Muses. Oh my, the food was indescribably good, the music fantastic, and the atmosphere truly New Orleans. Across the street was a group of young musicians playing on the corner. After listening for bit, I talked to one of the boys. He said they are just a bunch of friends who get together and play for fun and tips. Incredible musicians!

After dinner and music, we walked to Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. Built in 1722, it's the oldest bar in the US. it was dark and creepy and has to be incredibly haunted. From there we wandered down Royal Street and headed back to the hotel..

Tomorrow we are taking a Garden District Tour in the morning. I also want to go back to some cool antique shops we discovered on Decatur street.
