Today was by far the most beautiful day we've had this week. The sky was blue with fluffy white clouds. Even though it's July, the climate is not as bad as we expected. It's hot but the ocean breeze is always blowing to cool you off. We decided we needed to see the turquoise ocean one more time before leaving in the morning, so we spent a couple of hours sitting on the beach at Ft. Zachary Taylor Park. We arrived back to The Artist House just in time for happy hour.
After dinner we took a ghost tour. Key West is one of the most haunted places we've been, and our guide had plenty of stories! Since we are staying at The Artist House, we were most interested in the story of the doll who once resided here. (I wrote about Gene Otto and his doll, Robert, in a previous blog. ) When the house was sold to the current owner, it was renovated to its current condition. This house is the only home the doll ever had. Even though Mr. Otto's family donated Robert to the historical society, he still haunts the house. He caused many problems for the construction crews working here. He is still seen sitting in the turret room window on occasion, even though he now resides at the East Martello Museum.
Tomorrow we are up early and plan to drive as far as we can get on our way to New Orleans. The trip has been a once in a lifetime opportunity for us, but I have to say I will be ready to get back home in a week!
