Day 1 Blue Ridge Parkwy
Ashville, NC

We started our Blue Ridge Parkway journey. I bought a book about the Parkway which tells about each pull off, bridge, exhibit etc. The only problem is that it's written from Shendoah to Smoky Mountain and we are going the opposite way. But I got used to reading it backwards.
The weather wasn't co-operating and we had lots of drizzle and fog but we did get some chances to get out of the car to look at the beautiful mountains, hear some waterfalls and see the rhododendron.
We stopped around lunch time at Wolf Laurel Gap - Heintooga Spur Road (458.2) and ate in complete seclusion - a rare commodity in SMNF, at a picnic table in Black Camp Gap where there is a Masonic Marker. After lunch we noticed both dash board break light indicators were lit and the truck manual said to get service immediately. John said that there was no difference in the braking performance after lunch compared to before so we agreed to get service at the first "Big" city (where there was a better chance of finding an RV shop or a Ford dealer). We ended up in Ashville where the biggest attraction is the Biltmore Estate. I had heard of this place and would have gone on a tour if the price hadn't been $40.00 a piece. As a result of this boycott, after getting the RV fixed we had a lazy day and thoroughly enjoyed doing nothing. The repair cost was about $100.00 mostly in labor but a small price to pay for peace of mind and a good ABS sensor. We ate dinner at a great Mexican restaurant in town which featured a one man band. Where's Sharon when you need her? Two days in Ashville was more than enough so it's back on the Parkway in the morning.
P S The wifi I paid for didn't work in the campground and I squeaked enough to get a refund. This was the worst campground we stayed in so far. The RV's were sandwiched together so that the awnings would overlap if the place was full, we were right on the road, there was no shade and it was the most money we had paid so far. :-(
