Once again, I'm in a hurry but thought you all would like to see some pics of the Glacier area. Things here are going great, hope all is well with each of you.

Glacier National Park

8/29 Monday We arrived at Glacier in the late morning. It was slow going on Rt 93 through the small towns. We entered the Park and selected a camp site near the west entrance called Apgar. Since it's "Federal" there's no hookups or hot water but it's quite roomy and has lots of trees. Not wanting to waste the rest of the day and not having enough time to drive Going to the Sun Road, we took a drive along the paved Camas Road. It traverses the pine forest along numerous creeks. At the end of the road we took the unpaved Outside North Fork Road back to West Glacier Bear Paw & John's Paw

. After dinner we drove to Fish Creek and walked the pebbly shore line along Lake McDonald to the Rocky Point lookout and since it was getting dark, we walked the beaten path back to the car. A campfire ended the night.

8/30 Tuesday We woke at the crack of dawn to drive the 50 mile long Going to the Sun Road. We figured this would give us the best chance of spotting wildlife. We didn't see much but at Logan Pass someone pointed out a group of mountain goats clinging to the rocky mountains and we watched them with our binoculars. They looked like white puff balls. A family was laying around with just one of them climbing on some higher cliffs. Some Columbian ground squirrels also live up there and they delighted us with their antics. The mountains and glaciers and forests and streams along this Road are simply spectacular. So much Beauty! Pictures don't capture it and we could see why Sharon wants to bring Dana here.
We had a picnic lunch at Sun Point but the name is deceiving because it was freezing up there. St Mary's and the lake with the same name ended this journey It took us 5 hours to drive the 50 miles because we stopped at every pull out and took lots of pictures and even walked around a bit high in the mountains. Coming home only took 2 hours. I attempted to nap back at the Rv but was unable to sleep while listening to the radio about the extreme devastation caused by hurricane Katrina. I made a pasta dish for dinner - comfort food, I guess. We didn't have a fire but took another hike around Apgar to an oxbow bend in the creek looking in vain for wildlife. All we saw that night was a doe and her spotted twins. After that we drove into town for some ice cream and were delighted to see some folks with suitcases boarding an Amtrak train at a station named Belton - like a step back in time.

Fantastic
Did you take those pictures or are they post cards?
(just kidding). They are fantastic pictures and we all wish we were there with you! I'm just afraid you may never want to come back. We are fine at this end, thanks for sharing with us.

Love
