The flight, metro ride, and taxi back to Athens were uneventful, but what started as a chesty cough has gotten worse. I probably just have a respiratory infection, but having been bitten by Egyptian mosquitoes and feeling sorry for myself for having no Bear here to baby me while I'm under the weather, I'm thinking maybe it's malaria!
The public hospitals are not great in Greece, so the pharmacists are used as the front line of medical treatment here. I wrote a pathetic letter in broken Greek and handed it to the pharmacist two doors down from my apartment:
Hello
I do not speak Greek
I am sick
I cough much
Lung I hurt
Throat I hurt
Nose I hurt
I no can I sleep, too much I cough
Please medicine?
He gave me cold pills and expectorant, but no cough drops or Nyquil. I'll let you know if I die of malaria.
