We took the second walking tour today into the heart of Athens. We passed the Kalimarmara Stadium, the Zappeion, through the National Gardens, watched the changing of the Evzone guard at the Vouli, Syntagma Square and metro station, Mitropoli church, Kapnikareas church, and the Monastiraki market. I also saw Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus on the bus ride home with the very compassionate Basil. I'll write about each of these sites and add pictures later, since I'm hoping to retrace the tour in a few weeks when I'm not sweating or limping or snotting or bleeding.

Basil completed the tour in the Monastiraki market and released the students to their own devices, and they disappeared in all directions in 30 seconds. The students seem to have boundless energy and fearlessness. Some of them are taking long walks into new areas until they get delightfully lost. They're making new friends and following them to nightclubs. They're attempting the hour-long trek to the beach. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of some of their discoveries, hoping to schedule a "take your professor to the beach" weekend and an "I'll buy your meal if you show me your favorite taverna" lunch.

Getting your students to teach you
Now that's smart. The only thing more fun than figuring things out yourself is showing them to somebody else. So scheduling a 'take your professor to the beach' day will be perfect! After listening to you teach them, they'll love teaching you.

And if you're still not feeling well, listen to your friend Dutch. I don't know her (him?) but I agree with the advice 100%. Rest, ice, waterproof sunblock, and the BRAT diet. It will help.
