Those crazy students!

Wherever there are students, there are traditions. Here are some of the more famous ones in Tartu :

First of all, you are only considered a REAL Tartu student when you have fulfilled the following three criteria :
1) you have to fail at least one exam;
2) you have to live for some time in the dorms;
3) you have to walk over the top of Arch Bridge (not too difficult if you haven't been drinking much). The police are constantly watching for daredevils
There is allegedly a fourth criteria (having sex in the library) but I am not sure if that is a real one ;)

Another strange tradition is the Student's Market, when everybody will try to sell the weirdest objects, from dead birds, used underwear, a bag filled with air (no, NOT an airbag, just a bag filled with air !) or a case of boredom.

And at the end of April are the annual Spring Day festivities, with a boat race on the Emajõgi river. It is nothing like the boatrace between Cambridge and Oxford, more like a rubber boat rally with own decorated boats. If you stay dry, something went wrong !
