5. Using the computer

Preparing a trip without computer is almost unthinkable.

The internet has been very important in planning our trip :

a. Keeping in touch with Claudia.

With Claudia living 500 km from my house, it is important that we plan the trip together. Last year I did most of the planning when we went to Estonia, but this year it is truly a joint venture.

We use the following computer programmes :
- Skype for our face2face contact (both audio and one-way visual contact)
- Backpackit for sharing documents, ideas, to-do lists...
- Mind Map for building our contact list and sights to see (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)

b. Finding accommodation and friends to meet through BeWelcome

As you probably know, Claudia and myself are members of BeWelcome , which allows us to find free accommodation with other members and a place of contact for meeting other travellers.

c. Finding information about India

There are many web sites that offer info about India. I mostly consult Lonely Planet because of their excellent forum called Thorn Tree.

d. booking the flight and ordering the visa

Booking a plane was a piece of cake thanks to the numerous web sites that give you an overview of the ticket prices. We chose Billiger Fliegen because we had some good experiences with them last year.

Claudia booked her visa through the net, I just downloaded the paper and went there personally.
