Completed a bloody big blog the other day, and just completing a tiny one now so i feel up to date when getting into Vietnam.

We are flying onto Vietnam tomorrow and I'm looking forward to things being cheap again after a week or so in Hong Kong.
What have we done in Hong Kong....not much, we missed out on a bunch of things such a s a kung fu display and a tai chi session because ...umm...well we couldn't be bothered and fancied a rest.  I think it was the first real rest since staying with family in OZ so it was nice to just lie in bed watching BBC World News on the TV :)

You are prob saying "Why do you need a rest from a year long holiday, you lazy ungrateful nob"  And i would prob be saying the same..... but getting up early and cramming in loads of sights and activities can take it out of you :)

The time we spent in Hong Kong was spent in Chunking mansions... i mentioned this before but I'm not sure if i mentioned that it is nothing like a mansion, and should have been called Chunking Flats or something....some good Indian food though and that is what we have been living on in HK as its cheap and a round trip of 10 Min's to pick up the food and be back in the bedroom ...convenient :)  Strangely i get a homely feel from the mansion and have really enjoyed staying here....good job its cheap.... you can view pics of it here and also read a little more about it if you like : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chungking_Mansions
We did have a day at the horse races...happy valley race course...  placed a bet on 6 races...didn't win a thing, but was a fun day out and when minimum bet was 80pence didn't really break the bank.... spent more on a jug of beer than betting.  After the races we had an Indian meal with a Scottish couple and an Irish girl...then went out for drinks :) That ruined our plans of an early morning Tai Chi session... but the Indian food and cheap wine was worth it :)
We also took a trip to the observation level in the bank of China building for some pretty nice views....and took the star ferry to hong Kong island to get to the peak tram.... the tram taking you to the uhhh...Peak!   Even better views.  There was also a game center there, where you could sit and play Xbox 360, playstation ds's n all that for free....so that took up some of our afternoon.  We then checked out the longest escalator in the world...at 800m long i think... we were on it for about 10 minutes then realized it was just an escalator and it only went up.... so we hopped off and walked back down.

I have stocked up on books.... now have 5 in my bag ready to read in SE Asia...apparently its difficult to find books...not sure if this is true, but I'm well stocked anyways.  Today we visited the zoo and botanical gardens... i stood mesmorised by the Gibbons for an hour or so....but didn't take any pictures as no one wants to see an animal in a cage!

Sooo looking forward to SE Asia and will hopefully be meeting up with some friends we have met along the way and some friends from before we left :)  ....and maybe some family :)

Recently read Strike Back by Chris Ryan - He was one of the guys who accompanied Andy Mcnab during Bravo Two Zero.... his book was ok and kept me reading but didn't really do anything for me after Bravo Two Zero.

Also tried to read a book about Human Errors but got bored :)

You can see all the HK photos in the usual place:
