Ello Eloo

So after being a bit bummed out about our hostel in Brisbane because it was a shit tip we met Alex in town (guy we met in Chile) and he took us to a rugby league game!  His dad got us some super close seats for free (very nice of him) and we watched the Brisbane Broncos vs Gold Coast Titans... we were on the broncos side and after a very close game including extra time and onto golden goal the Broncos won with a try!!  Even i jumped out of my seat and normally i hate sport that involves a loada sweaty blokes and a ball...very good game and a good atmosphere.  After this we had a little bar crawl around Brisbane...some with gorgeous views of the city and ended the night with the sprinkler, riding the horse, riding an angry horse, and the case your not as cool as me..those are the dance moves we were pulling out :)

Next morning slightly hung over we jumped on a bus to Noosa ...what did we do in noosa?  alot of chilling out :)  A very relaxed hostel situated next to a river that runs into the sea.... other than chilling, eating ice cream and drinking coffee on the waterfront me and Zo hired a fishing boat.  After seeing lots of people fishing, and remembering fishing a fair few years ago off the cost of Maryland with my good friend james's dad John (at that time we were scared of the fish and the bait) i had the super urge to go fishing once more.  So we were given a map and a brief instruction on the rules along with a bag of prawns for bait and a fishing line with a hook on the end (no not quite the authentic fishing i was after but it was still cool)  We sped off at top speed......almost the speed of an elderly person swimming up stream.  It was a good day lots of dropping anchor and relaxing at different spots of the river enjoying the sun.. we didn't expect to catch much with just a bit of string anywayz.... but with half hour to spare i got a bite..yey....  it wasn't much of a struggle but i could tell the fish was fighting (forgot to mention that at the start of the trip i asked the guy if there were any dangerous naturally were in oz and most things are dangerous and he warned us of a fish with spines on its back that could poison you!)  Anywayzzzz i pulled him in and we looked at him umming and arring the dangerousness of the poor thing and then i pulled him in and held him in a towel (still a little scared of the bloody thing as i was all that time ago in Maryland!)  Zoe's job was to remove the hook...but she couldn't do it so i did, released him and watched him swim off after a meeting with an inexperienced fisherman.  Found out later it was a bream... although content with my catch still felt bad for the little bastard.... not sure if I'm gonna fish again...... actually yea i think i will its fun :0

Me an zo also played a lot of table tennis at the hostel i was surprised at her skill and she was surprised at me being surprised with her skill :)  And zoes friend from many years past (secondary school) came to meet us in noosa.... we took advantage of the free kayaks at the hostel and spent the day paddling around the river and out to some sandbanks in the middle, from where you can see the sea... the sandbanks were covered in pelican shit but still remote enough to be a nice place to chill out.... en route we also seen a couple of sting rays swim past which were cool ohh yarr.

From noosa headed to Hervey bay spent the night relaxing as at this time i felt ill with a cough and a fever.... this kinda cleared up for the next three days....our Fraser island tour!!  We booked ourselves on a self drive 4 x 4 basically drive yourself around Fraser island for 3 days in a jeep...and after a briefing and meeting our fellow passengers...that we did :)  We were with 2 lads from england a candian guy and also a couple from england...and it was a good bunch of people... no one was too worried about sticking to the rules and we had a good laugh.  The three days consisted of lots of off road driving in the sand, a lake surrounded by sand dunes down which you can run roll dive and jump into the lake (which we did), driving on the beach scared shitless of washouts (bloody gert shelfs in the road) that can cause you to flip your jeep...and at points we were doing 100k so we were a tad worried, getting chucked about in the back of the jeep hitting our heads on the roof and our luggage everywhere inside), camping on the beach with a view of the sea and the noise of the waves to send you to sleep, a gert ship wreck!, champagne pools (named because you sit in these shallow pools surrounded by rocks and as the waves hit these rocks you get covered in champagneeske water), lake "bloody gorgeous, perfectly clear and refreshing" Mckenzie, a BBQ and pasta meals cooked on a camping stove...... oh yea and a pink jeep :)  Twas a bloody good trip and i loved it...i think the gang we were put with made the trip even better :)

So feeling a little rough still after Fraser island...back in Hervey bay we relaxed some more and then headed to airlie beach.  Here we were set to go on a 12 man sailing boat for two days and two nights around the Whitsundays today...we should be on it now instead of writing our blogs but it got canceled due to lack of interest in that boat!....and I'm bloody glad it did..every cloud n all that... we have now been upgraded for free to a boat twice the Price that departs tomorrow, it is the largest sailing boat on the Whitsundays (a mega boat apparently) but still only holds 32 people... plus it is 3 days and 3 nights as opposed to the original 2.....the extra day spent taking you from the Whitsundays to snorkel and scuba dive at the outer reef (i guess this is the outside of the great barrier reef as we will be snorkeling that within the Whitsundays)  Anyways were due to go on a big boat tomorrow...and I'm sure i will stick some pics on here and let you know how we get on.

Just wanted to also say HAPPY BIRTHDAY Aunty Jan for tomorrow.

And Thanks Alison and family for the ozzy notes you gave me and zo before we left...we enjoyed a curry on the waterfront last night with half :) and will treat ourselves to something other than backpacker style soup and noodles another night with the rest :) so thanks from me and Zoe :)

ohhh i also just finished a real good book looking at the history of the AK47 and how it has become an icon that ranks along side coca-cola as one of the most recognizable brands of the world.  Was a real good read, starts with talks to the inventor, how the gun was a sign of liberation in Vietnam, how it progressed to a sign of terror with it being wildly used by terrorists and child soldiers.  It also told how books movies and rock albums were sold with the use of the AK47's image... one of the best books i have read so far.. super recommended.  and a tid bit of info for yer.... whit it is called AK47.... A stands for Automatic (as it is obviously and automatic weapon), K stands for Kalashnikov (Mikhail Kalashnikov) its Russian inventor and as you might of guessed it was made in 1947.  Ooohhhh and another bit for yer.... the reason this gun has done so well is because of its under -engineered simplicity, a child can strip and fire this gun, it can be used in all climates without mis-firing or jamming (one of the reasons that the Americans in Vietnam would often discard their weapons and pick up ak's of fallen Vietnamese)  ...Good book :)

Other than the pics i have added here zoe took some good uns :

and all of our photos are here:

Right off to prepare for our sailing adventure  hope all ye land lubbers be well.... I'm off to get a patch, a parrot and a telescope. x x
