After La Paz we took the bumpiest bus ever for 12 hours..... it got so cold i was wrapped in my sleeping bag and the window turned to ice nex to my head! We awoke at Uyuni a ghost town situated an hour from the Salt flats and where we would be taking our tour.
After a day of rest and not much to do but rest we booked oursleves on a three day tour that woould show us the salt flats, and eventually take us into the Atacama Desert in Chille.
On day one of the tour we met our driver and jumped into thge jeep. A little while later we arrived at a train grave yard...lots of rusted old trains and cool to see....apparently one of the traines there had been robbed by buch cassidy and the sundance kid back in the day
From here we headed into the salt flats for a gander and it was as white and as flat as the eye could see, we also discovered the salt was 4 - 5 M deep and 12,000 Km2. After this we checked out a hotel made of salt and set off once more.
After a lot of driving and a nap, we arrived at an island made of coral from when it was water as oppposed to shit loada salt...as we had a n wander and a gander at all of the catcti on the island our cook prepared us lunch. The island and our location stood at 3,660 m above sea level, After an hour or so of taking optical photos on the flats, and a game of salty cards we were back in the jeep listenig to the guides cheesy 80īs tunes and back on the flats.
After a load more driving we were at another salt hotel and this time our bed for the night..... me an zo had a double room made of salt, slept on a bed of salt, the floor was made of granulated salt, and we ate dinner at a table made of salt! After climbing a hill to watch a gorgeous sunset we had a chilly but comfortable night.
Back on the road in the morning, leaving the salt behind us we headed into the desert on a super bumpy and slightly hazardous road
We stoppped at soem crazy rock formations, made from this dusty red rock.....with a view of a volcanoe in the distance (half the volcanoe in Bolivia, half in Chille). Next a laguna lunch and a lonely flamingo to watch.
After a couple more lakes, a bunch more flamingos we entered real desert terrain, either on the set of starwars or travelling aliong the red planet.....even more funky rock formations and amazing views of marbled mountains. Eventually we hit a red lagoon and our hostel. (i will try and upload a video fo me and zo by the red lagoon) Our hostel was icy cold....apprently it gets to -15 at night and it definatly felt cold....so nwe had a bottle of rum to keep us warm.
Aftera night of cards and drinking games with a couple from oz and two dutch girls me and zo squeezed into a single bed to share warmth with all of our clothes and about 10 blankets! after our wake up call at 5:30 am and some eggs we reached a set of geyzers...bloody cold but took some cool photos!
We then headed through a rough landscape to some hot springs! Always my favourite part of any trip! Here we relaxed untill getting out where the water on your hair turned to ice.
After stopping at the last chilly lagun we said good bye to our guide, cherie and michal (oz couple) and we headed to the border of Chile!
Another stamp and another country... Yey!
