It's been quite a depressing couple of days here in Cairns.  It has been raining just about non-stop since we arrived on Sunday night.  This city is very boring after about a day of walking around.  We wanted to leave yesterday morning, but unfortunately we were told by Greyhound when we arrived at 6:30 am that our bus and all other buses for the day were cancelled because the rivers had flooded the bridge.  Apparently Cairns is getting their heaviest rain since 1990.  And there is only 1 road that goes down south! We asked for a refund, and were told that Greyhound never gives any refunds.  We were really surprised by how unsympathetic their agents were.  We had only booked our tickets the day before, and they didn't tell us when we booked that the roads were already flooded - very devious practices.  We rebooked for this morning at 6:30am, but again all of the  buses were cancelled.  The greyhound office manager tried to make us go away and told us to wait until the rivers cleared up, which could take up to a week she said.  She was adamant that there we no other solutions, but we prevailed, and got her to give us a credit to use on another booking.  If you ever travel to Cairns - make sure it isn't the rainy season and DON'T use Greyhound!!!  Sorry folks, only a few pictures, Francis and Matt aren't having a true holiday at the moment!  The one highlight was that we did meet some great people, including a group of Spaniards studying English together.  Well of course their Spanish was improving by the minute, while their English was a far cry from what it should be.
