Hi to all! Coming to the end of my first week in Sanaa. It is a beautiful city, and I am living in the heart of the Old Quarter. The ancient mud buildings are decorated with coloured-glass windows, white plasterwork and roof terraces. Yemen is so different from Syria - quite a bit poorer, for one thing. It is takin a bit of getting used to, as the food is .. different, and loads of men in Sanaa (and all men outside it) carry guns of some sort. The country is very conservative, and nearly all women wear the full burqa.
That said, it is a great place and the landscape is stunning. I have met some very nice people, both Yemenis and fellow-students, with some of whom I am planning to travel at the end of the two-week coures.
The internet here crawls along, so I will post pics when I get to Egypt.
My lessons are very good, and my teachers are excellent, so the Arabic is coming along allright. Have to get back to revision now, but will update soon.
