We got up early this morning to catch the bus to Nong Khai, which is where you can cross the border to Laos. After a bit of confusion we headed off in what we thought was the wrong direction, on the back of a sawngtheaw. He dropped us off at a dusty corner, where we managed to find some breakfast, homemade rice cakes! A funny local bus, with more ventilation than should be legal, picked us up and off we went. We thought we would be in Nong Khai around 1:30 and everything was looking good, we pulled into a bus station for what we thought was a loo stop. We asked the driver how long and he wrote 15 on a bit of paper, naturally we thought we had 15 minutes... On the way back from the loo we bumped into Josef, who we had met in Chiang Khan, who was catching the same bus, only to find out that 15 had ment 15:00. The bus station had pretty much nothing, except a noodle shop and two grumpy kiwi girls! And Josef, from Austria, who thought it was all very funny!

After our three hour loo break we were on the road again following the Mekong all the way and finally got to Nong Khai around 6:30PM, that's 18:30 for those who care! Instead of crossing over into Laos we found a nice place to stay for the night and went and drank beer with Josef.
