Stopped off part way in the mountains by a nice lake (first photo) then made it to our first Park Service Campsite north of YS, we find out that these are the cheapo ones with now showers..oh well, it's raining most of the time so no need to wash.
On the first night we also realise that we are quite high, about 6,000ft, and although it's June, it's freeeeeezing cold, so into town we go the following day to buy a second sleeping bag each!
We managed one walk from this camp, but got snowed off the mountain halfway way up....I thought it was summer!
A few days later after drying out in a motel we made it into Yellowstone proper. On entering the gates in the car, to the world's first national park, a sanctuary for many endangered animals, what's the first thing I do....run one of them over....whoops
We managed to go 'Backcountry' one night, off into the Wilderness on our own, saw yogi and a few of his animal friends (Elk, Wolves, deer) We were a little nervous when the bear started coming down the river as I wasn't armed with my car anymore, but I had purchased a wicked can of pepper spray, marketed as Bear repellent, in true American style. Unfortunately I didn't get to use it, we obviously smelt so bad from not washing that from 350yards he turned back.
Did a load of volcanic stuff, then left for Grand Teton National Park.....and more snow....so we left there and headed for Salt Lake City.
