Ive certainly been lax on updating this. Am wondering if anyone is reading it anyway! If you are let me know!

Been a few hectic weeks since last i got down to some serious blog writing. Was still on the big GAP Adventures trip and everything was plain sailing. Well a bit has happened since then. The weather took a turn for the worse for one. I guess i should have realised that it wouldnt be wall to wall sunshine and maybe i had been spoilt by great sunset pictures and the constant burning myself, peeling and then starting again routine. Maybe spoilt isnt the right word there! Well the heavens opened in what was supposed to be ´picturesque´ Paraty. Didnt see much there and then the paradise island of Ilha Grande got a dousing for the 2 days we were there. I worried not though. Surely it couldnt continue. Well it did into Rio and then finally broke after about a weeks worth. Very un South American i thought. Us brits love to chat about the weather!

Rio was as i expected. Manic in places but tranquil in others. The beaches were a great way to unwind after 45 days of ´up before dawn´ travel with the group. Tearful goodbyes over and done with and onto the beaches. Mention has to be made to Christo Redentor himself. Was a little cynical about him as thought the Rio authorities probably commisioned him so it would be a good tourist money maker and maybe they did but the sight is impressive. Not so impressive was my attempt to give reasons to 2 girls in a beachside bar as to why i was there. Maybe nieve but i was just reading my bible (Footprints guide to South America) and they kindly inquired if id like to take them back to a hotel for some err fun and games! 4pm this was. Little did i know i had walked into what they called a sex bar! It looked normal to me! Head back in my book and hoped they would go away!

Up the coast afterwards to Salvador. A lovely little place with old colonial buildings, cobbled streets and around 100 museums! Oh and around 1000 beggars! Only a 2 days stop though until my sis and I moved onto Recife. Now i really did enjoy this place. Almost wall to wall sunshine, plenty of beer opportunities and a nice beachside apartment. Cant keep this up though or ill be back home by September! Sis had a few troubles here and it was clear that South America was really getting to her. She has been here longer than me so she wants out and has just booked a flight to Costa Rica. Coupled with a skimming of her card, losing money and leaving her camera in the apartment i think she can say she has had a crap week! Tried to dive here. Still waiting for that spectacular Brazilian dive. Think ill have to give up on it as our ´divemaster´ couldnt locate the wreck we were going to dive after 5 attempts. He got the hump and we came back to port. Think his pride was hurt! All i got out of it was a free boatride and lunch!

Lst 2 days we have visited Fortaleza and now im in Manaus ready to start my Amazon adventure. I have visions of me being like Ray Mears but without the waistline...well not yet! 3 days camping in Jungle and hopefully not a sanitised ´Im a celebrity type´ one! Pics will be forthcoming. At least i feel up to date now.

Oh special mention to the bus companies that are keeping us going around the country. Nice rides but could do without the bumps! Never will i put myself through a 29 hour one again!!
