So why am I in Kansas you may ask...Well, my dad got a job here in February, my parents are in the process of moving up here and I wanted to hang out with my folks before leaving the country.  It took me 11 hours in the pouring rain, a little hungover from the night before, to drive from Austin, TX to Junction City, KS.  I almost hit a deer and a skunk within 15 feet of entering the not-so-exciting state of Kansas.  And though it was dark, I could still see the expansive flatness of the plains.

My parents are desperately trying to sell their house in Georgetown, TX while also painstakingly searching for something appealing in the 20 mile radius of the military town of Junction City (pop. around 20,000).  Currently, my dad is living in the family RV in the Owl's Nest Campground which is a within a strong arm's throw of his place of work.  He's got a nice little set-up.  I'm using the computer in the "office" which is a flat screen on the dashboard with the PC at my feet under the dash of the RV and the passenger seat is my office chair.  We spent yesterday driving around the surrounding small towns, Abilene, Enterprise, Milford and Chapman, looking at all kinds of houses built in the ranges of the 1880's to the 2000's.  The highlight was eating dinner at the Tyme Out Steakhouse, a local dive bar and grill that serves Buffalo burgers and some pretty tasty chicken fried steak.  The drink special of the evening, or all the time perhaps since the ceiling was lined with thousands of Crown Royal bags, was a double Crown for $6.50.

I'll be relaxing with the folks and my Aunt Dovie till Tuesday when I fly out to San Francisco to meet up with my friend Jean Marie.
