Well, my original plan is official a bust.  I spoke to GAP this afternoon and they informed me that, sadly, they are having to cancel all of the rest of their Antarctic trips this season.  They will be handling all of my travel  plans that had been booked with them (which included not just the Antarctic cruise, but also a 6-day hike in Patagonia and two flights within Argentina).  As far as what I'll do now, I'm not sure...

I've been looking at other tour operators, but they are a good deal more expensive.  Granted, I would have an extra year to budget for it, but I'm just unsure right now whether or not I can swing it...  So the question seems to be will I go to Antarctica in 2009, or will it need to wait until 2010?

Perhaps 2008 will just be my Glacier National Park trip and another birthday trip thrown in so that I'm not insanely depressed about not being on the bottom of the world (literally) come March.  2009 might then be better to target as my Galapagos year...?  Or something similar.  2010 could then be Antarctica - in fact, I might even be able to talk a certain best friend into doing that with me instead of the Arctic..?  Hm...

Anyway, for my own sanity, I will leave this travelogue open for Antarctica so that when my trip is booked, it'll be waiting.  For now, I send out a fond farewell to the Explorer - I'm sorry to not have gotten to sail with you!
